Ok i havent actually been to machu pichu yet but i dont have a camera on me to download pictures from the truck ride. So the display pic will do for now.
Well i dont want to sound like im moaning so i apologise if it comes out that way but i have not had a good day. I arrived in Cusco today at 8 in the morning after travelling for 32 hours on top of a truck which was carrying planks of wood. We set off on Monday evening from Puerto. It was pitch black but you could see amazing stars as we drove through the jungle. It started raingin so they closed the roof over which was nice of the driver. Because the roads are mainly straight through the jungle the driver, well it felt very fast, but he was driving at full speed and the road was sooooo bumpy didnt get a single second of sleep. my head was bashing on the planks of wood, i could feel my face wobbling from the bumps. Anywho as it became light at 5 we were in cloud forest. Amazing scenery, waterfalls gushing down right by the road. The road the whole way was only just big enough to fit two cars. There was cliffs either side of the track too. It wasnt very encouraging when we saw grave stones dotted along the edge, and then if you looked over you could see a rusty wreckage of a past crash. I was still really ill all morning and the first night. I started to feel better after popping my pills around lunchtime so i sat up on the edge of the truck and admired the view. we got higher and higher, and the mountains got steeper. Tuesday night was the werst in my opinion due to the cold. it must have reached below -10 degrres C. I was wrapped in my sleeping bag, two trousers, two socks, 3 tops and a fleece and i could not feel my legs. the dew from being in the clouds made my sleeping bag damp which prob didnt help. When i stuck my head out in the morning the view had changed again to orangey rocky desert. So glad i did it, but you have to think all the pain is werth it for the views.
In cusco now, staying at Casa Grande which is right in the central Plaza. Am dying to sleep but have alot to sort out, but none of the peruvians seem to want to help. i need to get an ISIC for discounts as mine was stolen a few months ago with my purse. The one place in town has this women that is refusing to help. going back there in a bit with a friend who speaks perfect spanish so hopefully i can sort summit out. The plaza is a beautiful place here in cusco. So many tourists but ive bumped into a few people i already know so going to go out with them for tea, then im defo going to sleep.
Well Pisac market tomorrow, then on to Machu Pichu by friday.
all my love xxx
