The day itself started good. We ate all our fruit for breakfast and shared a sausage roll, before we filled up with petrol from the last jug and $15 at the gas station before we drove on. Our plan today was just to drive as long as we wanted and not think at where we were sleeping. We were stopped in Ceduna for the inspection of the car (fruit flies), got a greenlight and drove off. Ray decided that we should drive further before we needed to fill up the tank again, so we drove and drove and drove. All the time he asked how far is it to the next town, and I found the next town and how far there was there. Ray said we will be able to drive to Iron k*** before we needed to refill, so thats where we desided to go to. On the way there we stopped at a gas station so I could go to the bathroom. Ray forgot how high the car was so he tried to park in a place with a roof and managed to tear down half the roof. Luckely there was no damage on the car. not even a scratch. The owner of the petrol station figured it was an accident so we did not need to pay anything. We drove on as fast as we could to get as far away from there as possible.
When we got to town next, we found a cafe with a sign that we were in the middle of Australia. I looked at the map and found that it was not entirely true, but we stopped and ate cake there. Suddenly, an alarm began and when we asked what it was the lady told us that there was an alarm for volunteers (firefighters) about an accident, fire or death that they needed help with. I wanted to help but I'm no firefighter so we decided to travel further to not lose so much time on the road. After nearly two hours more on the road we stopped at Iron Knob. A peopleless place, more like a ghost town than anything else. I almost waited for zombies to come out of their houses to eat our brains. hehe .. We drove around untill the fuel light came on and we started to panick a little since the only gas station in town was closed years ago. We found some guys who lived there and asked them where we could buy petrol. The nearest petrolstation was 55km away so we had failed to go there no matter what we did. We were sent up to the local bar where they called around to people they thought had fuel. A lady showed us the way to a man who sold us 20 litres of petrol for $27.He said we were lucky to get to him, because usually people in the city sold a can of petrol for $ 50. It turned out that the city has been closed for 12 years, the same with mine here, but that people still lived here. It was just an hour away from Port Augusta, so they probably stocked up with food there once a week. We too drove past a family that lived in a caravan aswell. I felt bad for them in a way. The city has much potential, but it must be many millions of dollars to get it to be pretty again. We got enough petrol to drive on to the Port Augusta. We found a campsite along the river and rested there, until we suddenly began to argue for some reason .. We argued for an hour or two before we became friends again. We are going to go to sleep now. Hope the day is better tomorrow with relaxation after long days on the road.
