Emma & Fuzzy's Travels
Hi everybody! We are now back in sunny Oz, after a fabulous time in NZ. The last week in NZ was spent driving to a place called Methven to board at Mount Hutt. It was gorgueuous, but the road up to it was unbelievable. I don't know how there isn't more accidents. When we left Methven, we said cheerio to tall Paul and headed back to Queenstown for the last couple of days, then flew back to Oz. The first night in Oz was spent sleeping in Carins airport because we decided it was pointless spending money on a bed for the night when we were only going to be there for 6 hours. The airport was actually better than some of the hostels we have stayed in! There were big seats that we could actually lie on, showers, and the best part was, they didn't have any flights going out until 7 in the morning, so there was nobody about apart from other people who had decided to sleep there too and some staff. When we got up, we went to pick up the van from the lock up, but unfortunately van had decided she didn't like being left for a month and refused to start - just what we didn't need! And we had only put a new battery in about two weeks before we went to NZ, so we were doubly annoyed. The guy at the lock up charged it up for us, which took about 4 hours and it has been fine since (touch wood!). So, we left Cairns and headed further north to a place called Cape Tribulation, which is just beautiful. We stayed at a lovely campsite, the weather was gorgeous and there is loads to do. We just didn't have enough time there, so we crammed it all into one day. We got up in the morning and went on a baot trip down the river to croc spot. We seen three (one I am not so sure was real...it just lay there with its mouth open), but the other two were moving, so it conviced me they weren't just a prop for the tourists. After that we went jungle surfing, which is going in to the jungle, climbing a very high tree (it had steps, I wasn't actually 'climbing' and then we were hoisted up to the next one), getting harnessed to a wire and fleeing from tree to tree a la flying fox! Great fun! After the jungle surfing we went for an night time jungle walk, the purpose of it being to spot exotic nocturnal animals. The walk was really good, and not something you would get the opportunity to do all the time, but the wildlife was a bit disappointing - two massive moths, a huntsman spider and a mouse that the guide actually brought with him to release into the wild because it had been eating his food at home! Not quite what I had expected... One of the moths actually landed on me (and it was huge) and I had to pretend that I was totally ok with it because everyone else in the group were obviously not scared of beasties and stuff, but I was secretly freaking out, having palputations and perspiring alot until it decided it had had enough of hanging onto my top!
The next day we packed up and headed back to Cairns. We were supposed to be going on a trip to the Great Barrier Reef, but it was cancelled due to the weather, which was really disappointing.
The next stop for us is Alice Springs, which is a two and a half day drive (at least) through the outback. We are going there to join a trip to Uluru, which we are really looking forward to and the weather is going to be scorching.
Hope everyone is okay - cheers for pics, video clips and messages.
