On arriving in the Pantanal and and being introduced to the Mosquitos it was time to fish for dinner, piranhas!
To be honest to start with I wasn't dead keen on the idea of being out on the river bitten to death my insects but as its all about the experience, I decided I had better just get on with it and actually, turns out I'm not a bad fisherman, 2 piranhas in about 20 minutes. What was quite entertaining was that the whole time there were a couple of caiman, ( as per photo) lurking around my line so when I got a bite I had to move quickly to stop them stealing my catch!
We stayed on a ranch/farm for our two days, very relaxed but pretty basic. No beds so had to make do with hammocks which actually are surprisingly comfortable. We had plenty of time to go out on safari to spot the wildlife which is in abundance at the moment given it is the end of the rainy season. The farm also had beautiful horses so enjoyed a late afternoon horseriding and spotting monkeys, wild pig and parrots. Also went on a night walk, you never see much on these trips but right at the end of the walk we saw a raccoon and a huge owl so it made for a worthwhile trip.
After a couple of days and many mosquito bites later it was time to move to the semi tropical resort of Bonito, I was quite happy to leave by the end albeit I had become quite fond of my hammock!,
