Sophie and I arrived in Mission Beach and headed to the hostel, called Absolute Backpackers. Mission Beach is quite a small place with a nice beach but not much to do. The weather was nice and hot again so on our first day we went to the beach. As we were sitting there we noticed little parachutes appearing in the sky and as we watched them carefully we realised that they were heading towards us as they came into land!!!!! We quickly moved up the beach and lucky we did because they were literally landing right were we had been sitting!!!
Mission Beach is known as one of the nicest places to do a skydive in Australia. As you come down you have the views of the ocean, with a few Islands, then the gorgeous golden beaches and then the rainforest. We knew if we were going to skydive we would have to do it here! So we went to the tourist information place to find some quotes and the next thing we knew, we were booked on to do a skydive at 9 the next morning!! We spent most of that evening telling ourselves that we were not mad and we would be fine. There was nothing to worry about jumping out of a plane!!!!
All the crew from Fraser were also at Mission Beach but were staying at a different hostel. Adam and Laura were not there though, they were on Magnetic Island. It was Hannahs birthday so we went to join them for a few drinks around a campfire on the beach. By the time we had got there though Hannah was pretty worse for wear and had gone to bed, but we still had a good night! I didnt drink too much though as i didnt want to feel ill for my skydive!
So the next morning, bright eyed and bushy tailed, Sophie and I were picked up from outside the hostel. We were given a quick briefing on the do's and dont's and then we met our instructors. I had decided to get a dvd of my jump, so my instructor interviewed me about how i was feeling and things (i'm sure most of you have seen the DVD, if not ask mum and dad, its hilarious!) We then set off on the bus to the airfield. There was only 5 of us jumping that morning so the bus was quite quiet. I think everyone was a bit nervous! It didnt completey hit me till i was sitting in the plane heading up to 14000ft. When the door at the side of the plane opened and you can hear the wind and see the ground so far below you, thats when it properly hits you! I was the 3rd to jump and i have to say, OH MY GOD. It was the most amazing thing i think i have ever done!!!!!! You dont feel like you are falling, you feel like you are floating! It was incredible! And when the parachute goes up and your slowly coming down to earth, looking around you at the beautiful views, its just amazing. I would do it again and again, no question!
The rest of the day was spent on an adrenaline rush, we still felt like we were floating hours later! I want to thank you all for my christmas money, without it i would never have been able to afford to do it! Thank you all so much!!!!!!
The next day we left for Cairns!! xxx
