Ellen's Mini Adventure!
Well........a week into my time here in Melbourne, and i can honestly say (and i know ive said this before........) that this is my number one city!!! Absolutley love it here!
Arrived last Monday and had the pleasure of meeting Dr Karl Kennedy (!?!) and since then have taken the time to really walk the city! We were really lucky that two of Sue's friends Ron and Jas live here and were kind enough to show us the sights and sounds........
The city itslef is a maze of shopping malls and art galleries and all sorts of random places to keep yourself entertained, including loads of exhibitions and street art and random sculptures in the middle of the pavement, and cafes. Including one that we visited this afternoon called Max Brennan The Bald Chocolate Man...... where everything was chocolate orientated, and i had the best hot chocolate.....EVER!! Moods and Vix indulged in some chocolate covered waffles, looked great, but Moods was on the brink of being sick all afternoon, think her vanilla thick chocolate drink may have just tipped her over the edge!!!
Saturday was by far the best day so far, the four of us were up early and in the queue for the Australian Football AFL match between Adelaide and Melbourne!!! We had no idea on the rules, and even after a 2 hour game with front row seats, we still weren't sure on how the teams scored the points, however, the pitch was full of men in shorts and the game itself was really exciting as it was a very very close game, but the final win was with Melbourne, so it meant the whole city was buzzing on Saturday night and we hit the town. We went to a few bars, all of which were very funky and chilled out, and even better was the amount of live bands they have here!!!! It was brilliant, an especially good place was called The Laundry, who had a really good band playing who had a full horn section, really different and really talented!
Last week also gave us the chance to visit the infamous Melbourne Gaol, where Ned Kelly was held and hung.......quite an eery place and the history of it was fascinating, however the place is definitely haunted, so cant say i'll be returning there anytime soon!!!!
Tonight is our last night in Melbourne before we head off tomorrow in a rented car to drive THE GREAT OCEAN ROAD!! Going to be beautiful, and we've hired ourselves a really nice big car to do the trip in, so hopefully no breaking down in this vehicle! But to end the week we just could not resist the Neighbours Night in the pub below our hostel and tonights 'STAR (!?!)' guests are Boyd (again!), Stingray and the infamous TOADY!!!!!! So excited, going to be a cheesy night, just up my street, cant wait to holla the neighbours theme tune with every other sad person from the UK!!!!!
Anyway, lots of love to you all, speak soon, love me xxx
