Sorry about the lack of updates, but we have been having too much fun in Bali!We had 10 days and we stayed at our HOTEL!!! Not a hostelfor a change, but a hotel called Lusa which was not bad at all, as we had our own bathroom with hot and cold water and our own outside area which was quite nice. The hotel also had a pool which was a bonus! We did a number of things from spending lazy days on Kuta beach, which is the largest beach on the island, (I have never seen so many people before) and getting beaten up by the sea!The waves were huge; Chris even ended up with a battered knee which needed some attention from Dr Elle! The beach was great with the exception of being smothered by touts trying to sell you things; I think at one stage we had 5 people around us all trying to sell us stuff at the same time, very annoying! We also spent loads of time wandering around the cute little shops as well as along the streets of Poppies, which are again more cheap stalls etc.On the Saturday we went white water rafting on the Redang river which was really good fun!It was interesting seeing the rafts being blown up manually by the guide just before we got in!The raft held 5 including the guide, and lucky us got stuck with the most miserable German couple you could ever meet.I don't think the lass actually smiled once! And talk about lazy, I tell you me and Chris had a right work out as we were having to row for the 4 of us whilst they just sat and watched the scenery go by, I was half tempted to throw them in the river! But other than that it was really good, would have liked to have gone a little faster and we only went down a waterfall which was 4 meters high, so next time want something a little bigger , but thank you Becci and Aymee as you paid for that for my birthday ;)For those who have been to Bali (thanks Aymee for the advice), you will know that it's scooter central! Everywhere you go there are thousands of scooters, and they don't care where they go if it's down the wrong side of the road or even on the pavement, so we decided if you can't beat them, join them! So we hired a scooter (although you are supposed to have an international driving license, oops!) and did a little exploring. We headed to Ulu Watu temple, which to be honest was a little disappointing, but the monkeys there made up for it.We also headed to a number of different beaches which was nice, got lost more times than we went right thanks to my directions! We also got stopped by the police….He wanted to check our license, which obviously we didn't have, so he wanted us to either pay him 150,000 Indonesian Rupees (7.50 GBP) to keep quiet, or have to go to court! We ended up pleading ignorance and getting the pay off down to 100,000 for him to leave us be and call his colleagues to make sure they didn't stop us again - so corrupt! It was an interesting day but both of us struggled to walk afterwards as they kill your legs and bum; I think they are aimed at small people!Other than that, we enjoyed some yummy food and beer (only 1.00 GBP for a large one) and just chilled out lots. We really liked Bali and would definitely like to go back as we didn't get time to do everything we wanted to, partly from me having a dodgy tummy and being ill in bedfor 2 days!
PS the weather was great, and we are even starting to look brown!
