Kalaw is a lovely little town high in the hills and 10 degrees cooler than it was in Yangon.
Left Sheila in bed and went to a Pagoda in a cave, or I should say a series of caves. It was a surprise as I was expecting one little Buddha but instead found cavern after cavern full of Buddhas . They were of all sizes and some had neon lights around his head.
In the afternoon whilst trying to find the Bamboo Buddha we got lost. A helpful local told us to go the wrong way and we listened. We finally cheated and got a lift in a small van. Actually we were both glad we got lost as the last couple of hundred yards was up a sheer cliff.
Most people don’t stay in Kalaw and that is a shame. I could happily spend a week here as there are so many walks you can do and it is such a lovely temperature after the heat of Yangon.
