Matacawalevu- Long Beach Resort
The island of Matacawalevu was our next visit. We stayed in a resort called Long Beach. One morning we were feeling pretty healthy and went for a jog along the beach. We stopped off when the beach ended and lay on the rocks for a while to enjoy the scenery.
Half way along the beach is a tea shop, selling tea and cakes for $4. We were able to sample the local coconut and chocolate cake and the wonderful Pacific tea.
We walked to the local village here and visited the nursery and boarding school. We learned about the fruits and herbs that grow here and what they were used for long ago!
We made friends with the locals who live and workon the island whose names are Miri, Paul and Tui.
On our last day we decided that we'd like to go fishing. So Noa, one of the guys who helps the run the resort took us out in his small fishing boat. We prepared the rod and set out for sea.
After about half an hour on the choppy Pacific ocean without any fish, we were getting rather impatient so we started singing! We thought that if we sang to the fish it would bring them to the surface. After ten minutes Hey Presto! We found our theory worked!
I reelled the fish in as fast as I could so not to loose it. I wound and wound and wound the line in and after 5 minutes of doing so I finally got my reward! I could see the white shape coming towards me on the end of the line.
As it got closer I reeled faster. I' d caught a Baracuda! But when we got it inside the boat we saw that it was only half a fish! Ha ha! It had only been eaten by a shark!
