So this is my first blog entry on EHT and I am already behind. I have to update on many things that have happened so I guess we can start with our annual Chinese New Year dinner held in Huizhou, China.
I am using these photos and video to see if the upload time is OK as we are a bit concerned that the bandwidth we will be working with in the places we visit won't allow for the file sizes we estimate we will be using.
Pls have a look through and leave comments whether you were able to see the photos and watch the video without too many hassles. Much appreciated.
I will upload the full CNY dinner video once I have edited it completely. Mary and I joined the dinner last year and it was one of the best experiences we have had in China. This year she couldn't join as it was held on a Friday night. I went armed with 40gig of video and 4 gig of photo capacity and same as last year I was not disappointed.
As with most things it's the people who make your stay anywhere worthwhile. The natural beauty, architecture, food or other makes you go, but the people you interact with give you the stories you remember. So it is with Huizhou. In this case the only thing drawing me to it was a new and exciting job - the natural beauty was not present, the architecture was "Chinese efficient". Obviously the food was excellent from day 1 - it's China, it's what they do.
But it was always the people that kept me coming back. And it's these people I tried to capture. As friendly and unassuming as you find them here in my amateur photos and video - so they are in real life. I will miss them and I think I might even cry (at home so there is no loss of face!!!) before I need to leave.
I am staying in China until the end of this month - only going back to HK for weekends (thank you Margeaux and Hadley for putting me up and putting up with me).
I have already been told that all the production teams want one night each to say good-bye. I have asked how many teams there are... I have received the very Chinese answer of "maybe many". It is also the first time that Charles has said he is concerned whether I will make it during these dinners... either way, the camera will be going with me as I need to remember what happened somehow.
OK - my first blog entry done so now that I see it's easy I will be burning up bandwith and update more often.
Cheers,
Joey
