Phu Quoc reminds me of a cross between Tonga and Bali. Hardly any tourists, being in the rainy season which is a nice change.
We arrived at our hotel which was just up from Long Beach. Discovered a chilled bar on the beach and had a delicious seafood feast.
The next day we headed to the beach for the day. Alas we were rejected from the beach as the resorts that monopolise the beach will not let you use the beach even for payment which seems rediculous. In a huff we decided to look for new lodgings.
We then found (at quite a bit of expense but still cheap compared to home), Mango Bay Resort. What a find, easily the best we have stayed in to date. It is an eco resort, i.e. no plastic and runs on solar power. Our bungalow set in amongst trees just a few metres from the beach so idyllic and huge! The little touches make it luxurious and it is set away from the main tourist traps so a nice chance to really relax, snorkel, swim and just chill our for four days. The food is fantastic too!
Unfortunately it did rain for a couple of days but it forced us to really not do much at all. Nice not to think about planning for once.
After recharging ourselves time for the next adventure which is a ferry to the mainland and then heading to Cambodia. We are a little apprehensive as other travellers have told us a few stories but hopefully it will be fine. We are really looking forward to Angkor Wat and meeting Chen a 10 year old we have been sponsoring for a while through World Vision.
