We got up quite late (10am) and went in search of the pizza joint again after 11am. The lady that served us handed us menu's and when we declined them, she asked us if we were having the same as yesterday, which we were. Clever cookie. They switched their fans on and faced them towards us to cool us down. We were total sweaty Betties.
She brought us 2 margarita pizzas and Cip's drink; we ate the cheese dripping pizza whole-heartedly in the aching heat and then worked our way back to the bungalows. We stopped at a small store and got him some swimming shoes: we were nearing the end of our budget, but he definitely needed something to protect his feet; some of the cuts from the day before had gotten infected and he was struggling to walk on them, we saw it as an investment into his foot future.
We walked along the main road and spotted a Buddha statue with a large number of Fanta strawberries as offerings, we thought it was funny that 90% of the drinks were 1 flavour with only a few exceptions of Orange Fanta, we'd seen other amusing offerings of cigarettes on skewers - the Buddha apparently smoked one a day, in the morning.
We made our way back to our bungalows and Edd and I got our snorkeling gear together, as well as his new swimming shoes. The water was a bit rough, but we figured if we swam out a bit it would be clearer; the water was so murky you could barely see you hand in front of your face, which was an issue considering the sea urchins that lurked everywhere. I did not fancy unarmed combat with a sea urchin - I had a sneaking suspicion I would not win. After 10 minutes of basically swimming in the dark, we decided to go back; we could see nothing, do nothing and were afraid to put our feet down anywhere. The current was strong and the waves fluctuated too rapidly, one minute you were high above the reef, next minute you were inches away from it - this was an issue with the urchins and we didn't want to tempt fate.
Getting back was a precarious business, but we managed it without misfortune. Cip was confused as to why we were back so soon - we'd only been out 15 minutes as apposed to our usual 1 - 2 hours. We explained the pointless exercise we had just partaken in, rinsed off our gear and got dry. I then got the laptop out to blog and Edd had a nap.
We got up after 6pm and minced around in our bungalows, Cip got beers from the reception area and the boys sat and drank while we watched the sun go down. (We can't actually see the sun set, but we can still see the sky go pink). We then had a shower and got ready for dinner.
Back to the place we were at the day before; Edd and I shared a coconut soup with seafood meal and Cip ordered fried noodles with chicken, but he asked for a double portion as we thought it might not be enough food. It turned out he'd ordered enough food to feed a small army! We managed to eat most of the food, the boys finished their beers and Cip went for a walk along Walking Street - I wasn't feeling 100% so Edd and I started back to our bungalow, walking along the shore and letting the waves crash against us as they beached. Edd spotted little blue lights in the shallows and we followed them with the torch, thinking they were the little blue jellyfish flower things that we'd seen during the day. In the end we discovered that the lights were in fact plankton that lit up as the waves crashed. There weren't many of them, but we played a game of spot the plankton all the way back.
