We'd bought plane tickets the night before, just before we went to bed (last minute dot com) and were being fetched at 8am to get taken to the old airport. (Price for flights for 3 people: £69 in total). It was amazing how you could fly across Thailand for so cheap, yet tuk tuk drivers tried to extort the most ridiculous amounts of money to go 3km's down the road. No sense.
