Today was our last day in this beautiful place. We woke up lazy. Surprise surprise. We went for breakfast, omelette eggs today and then went back to bed for another hour.
We got up again at 10.45am and I started packing my things, so our room looked a bit like a war zone. Okay, a lot like a war zone, but it was organised chaos. I wanted to go back to our favourite spot as I wanted to get pictures of the rock fish we'd seen there previously, so Edd packed our snorkel bag, we creamed up and then left my organised chaos on the bed to be sorted out when we got back.
We walked over the hill, down the uneven stairs with sub stairs dotted here and there and the across the beaches. One thing was for sure, you definitely worked up a sweat before you got into the water.
We arrived at the rocks and got our things out, Edd getting in ahead of me and casing out the joint. It was easier for him to get in as he had swimming shoes - my flippers were fabulous once I was in the water, however getting in and out was an awkward and complicated affair.
The water wasn't as clear as it had been and the sky was grey, so it wasn't going to be our usual glorious snorkel session. We took photos of the beautiful reef, the myriad of fish and then a few videos of a family of clown fish that were shallow enough for us to get close to them. They were swimming between 2 separate anemones / sea grass and we spent a large amount of time trying to get as much footage as possible.
The session ended with us getting out as one of the resorts had dumped their sewage into the water and we didn't fancy continuing our snorkel in other peoples excretement. Especially as we frequently got water trapped in our snorkels. The though made me vomit in my mouth a bit.
We got out and went in search of lunch, the Dutch lady that owned our resort had asked us if it was okay if sh closed the kitchen for the day, we were the only people there and it was her sons last day, he was leaving for Australia the next day, so she wanted to spend time with him. We weren't particularly fussed about it, the place we stayed in at Otres was more closed than open, our current resort closing the kitchen for 1 day was a marked improvement. We therefore stopped at one of the other restaurants along the beach on the way back for lunch.
Me: 'Could I have seafood with black pepper seasoning and rice please?'
Bartender: 'We don't have seafood, we only have beef and chicken.'
Me: 'Ooh, could I have a banana pancake then please?'
Bartender: 'We don't have bananas.'
Me: 'Could I have a bowl of cereal then please?'
Bartender: 'We don't have any cereal left.'
Me: 'What do you have?'
Bartender: 'Baguettes, french fries, chicken and beef.'
Me: 'A plate of french fries then please.'
Edd had a baguette which turned out to be delicious, but out of their entire menu, which was written in chalk on boards on the wall, we could only choose between 4 dishes. Why they hadn't put 'sold out' or a line through basically everything else, was a mystery.
We then went back to our resort, showered, I packed my bag, Edd did a bit of washing (by hand) and then we had a rest on our bed, Edd had an afternoon nap and I sat and blogged. He'd shown be a program on Apple Mac's for video editing, so I sat and did that for a few hours as well, it was a bit of an addiction.
At 6pm, we went to the purple cushion area and had drinks. They were complimentary due to the kitchen being closed and we sat and chatted to the Dutch husband about the origins of the universe.
We then left at 7pm for a restaurant called Coco's I had misunderstood earlier in the day, but we ended up having dinner with the resort staff, all of us sitting around a round table. The food took over an hour to come, but we were forewarned - it took ages, but was worth the wait. We sat there until 10pm chatting and then all parted ways, we went back to our resort with the owners and their son and the other 2 staff members stayed out for a few more drinks.
We said goodnight after 11pm and went to bed, it had been a lovely ending to our stay and had been one of the most memorable dinners of our trip.
