So what had the potiential to be the least enjoyable of our 21 flights over these 6 months, turned out to be an awesome day. We left the Iris base at 1pm on Monday afternoon and headed to Pemba Airport to fly from Mozambique to J'berg, where we landed at 6pm local time. After collecting our tickets, enjoying a tasty meal, and making another attempt to organise a transit hotel in Doha (which failed again as they said the transit hotel was not on our file), we boarded the plane at 9pm. We arrived in Doha at 6am Tuesday morning and quickly got ourselves off the plane and headed straight to the transit desk to see what could be arranged. Ed started his well rehearsed lines about why we deserved a transit hotel and how much we had tried to arranged this in advance (with our travel agent, who said 'we could only get a few food vouchers' and by calling our local Qatar Airlines office in Mozambique who could not speak english, as well as an email to Qatar Airways which got no response). Before he finished his first sentence the lady behind the counter took our tickets and said 'one moment please'. She proceeded to stamp our tickets and said we could go to the transit hotel. Our transit visas, transportation to the hotel, an awesome excutive room in a 5 star hotel, with two amazing buffet meals and gym/spa were all given to us for free (well, included in price of our tickets). Such a relief not to spend 15hrs wandering exhausted around Doha airport or wandering around the city. In the end we got back to the airport for 7pm rested, refreshed and ready for our short trip that would land us in Mumbai for the next part of our adventure to begin...
