We spent the first 5 days in Nepal in a town called Bhaktapur (about 20 minutes from Kathmandu). It was a picturesque town, which gave us our first views of beautiful architecture surrounded by the hills of Kathmandu Valley covered in rice terraces.
We stayed on the top floor of a lovely guesthouse which had views across the rooftops of Bhaktapur and the hills behind. We could often see children flying kites on their roof terraces. We were visiting a nepali couple called David and Suni and who run a children's centre and a local church. There are 13 children in their centre who are mostly between the ages of 12-18. We were able to visit many of their 'house fellowships' where Ed spoke. They were in beautiful, 200 year old Nepali houses that had so much character they looked like they were out of a nursery rhyme.
The last 23 days of our stay in Nepal we spent trekking in the Himalayas (Annapurna Circuit and Annapurna Base Camp) with Beth's sister, Lydia. It was soooo nice to see her :) We covered over 300km, hiked up more than 15,000m of elevation in total (highest point was 5416m) and visited Talicho Tal (the highest lake in the world), Annapurna Base Camp and one of the highest trekking passes (Throng La Pass, on the Annapurna Circuit). It was amazing to be at that altitude for the first time in all of our lives - feeling the difference in breathing and how much harder it was to walk and climb. We would include pictures of Talicho Tal, but unfortunately there was a snowstorm when we got there so all we could see was WHITE! There was so much snow that we couldn't even see any distinction between where the snow on the ground finished and the sky began. It was an incredible journey, through rice terraces, snow covered mountains, and canyon-like dry landscapes. The pictures will do a better job of explaining...
