dzasta travels
Yesterday when I was walking someone gave me some advertising about a Bosphorus cruise. The problem with the letter it had no info about where to book, when it goes or any other relevant details. I asked around this morning and no one here could help me so I just headed down to where all the tours go from. I was offered a couple of lesser tours and didn't want them.
After a while I found the local boat that goes all the way to the Black Sea and back. It was 1/3rd the price so I got a ticket and jumped onboard. I didn't know where we were going but it didn't matter cos I have a return ticket. I now know we went to Anadolu Kavagi.
The top deck was crowded with germans. They really are a*******s arnt they? They hogged all the best seats, had their bags on the seats. When something came up on the other side they just pushed and shoved in front of people.
It was sooo cold. I cant tell you how cold it was. Lucky for me I still had my beanie in my bag so I put that on but I was still freezing. The sun was out but the wind off the water was sooo cold. That soon sorted the people out, most went down stairs into the warm.
Wherever we stopped for lunch was a small fishing village and set up for lunch for all us day trippers. You get off the boat and walk through all the restaurants and touts. Surprisingly the prices were OK and I had a fishkebab. Slab of fish,(mackerel) in 1/2 loaf of bread with tomato, lettuce and onion. It was really good.
The trip back was a lot quicker cos it was down wind and therefore it was not as cold. All in all it was a pretty good day.
Everywhere you go here there are toilets. The mosques have them, servos and truck stops and there are public toilets all over the place. EVERY one has someone sitting in front and you have to pay 1 lira to take a slash. Most places are clean and it is not a big deal but after a while it starts to add up. I have had to give up coffee. It costs 2lira for the coffee and 5 lira to get rid of it.
My last full day in Istanbul I was walking around and went to the Galata Tower. Originally built in 528, the structure you see today dates from 1348, and is a defensive structure. It is 66.9mtr tall 8.95mtr in diameter and the walls are 3.75mtr thick. They charge a way over the top price of 25 lira to get in but the views are unbelievable. At the top I swear I could feel the building moving so I didn't hang around. I got some photos and came straight down again.
