dzasta travels
The name of the town means mosquito creek. it is very apt, and has been the worst place for mossies so far. This is a launch point for us to go to Serengeti and the Ngorogoro crater. We were told breakfast at 6 and leave by 6.30, so that meant tents down and packed before 6. We were ready and all standing around the truck at 6 but no crew. They slept in so we were an hour late getting away.
Ngorogoro is the worlds biggest caldera that is not full of water. it is now a conservation area and pretty much the animals are captive due to the walls of the crater, so it is a microcosm. I expected to se more animals and in some ways less. we saw a cool heard of zebra and wildebeest and quite a few other animals but most were a long way off. There were soo many safari jeeps I am surprised we saw anything. They have up to 500 crammed into that small area and it is like a traffic jam. All in all it was a pretty good day but I think the place is overrated.
SERENGETI
We had a morning safari due and saw heaps of lions. One pride was 6 females, 2 males and 11 cubs and they were really close so we all got a really good look. We found a leopard kill in a tree and waited for a while to see if he would come back but he didn't while we were there. For the arvo drive we headed straight for the leopard tree and sure enough he was there but so were about 50 safari jeeps. (as usual we were the last to leave camp) We hung around for a while and got some good pics. On the way home we saw another pride of lions stalking a wildebeest. We wernt able to stay cos we had to be back at camp before dark but it looked like the lions were going to loose. During the morning we also got to see 4 cheeta's on a kill. Our driver Samson, was the best driver we have had so far. He was pushing and shoving to get us to the front.
This is what Africa is all about.
Before you start this does not make all the rubbish worthwhile! This does not make up for all the ****!
BUT it was a really cool day.
I am now in Nairobi at some manky hotel and not allowed out at night cos they say it is not safe. I did get a chance to run down town and bought a new camera so hopefully the pics will get better and you wont have to see all the spots on them any more. SWe met the new tour leader tonite and it looks like more hell to come but I am sticking with the tour for a few reasons.
When e crossed the border we had a lot of fun with the Maasi women selling the usual tourist ****. One of the guys was trying to sell me to them for a chicken but bartered down to an egg.
