dzasta travels
I will come back here tomorrow and update Just wanted you to know where Iam. The hotel Im in is the best I have been in so far, it should be it is costing $25/night Bloody luxury.
I'll put some pics up tomorrow and let you know what is happening. I was gonna go skiing cos they got heaps of fresh dry powder but it raining now and will turn to slush.
When I arrived in Bishkek I was greated by a wall of taxi touts. Now I love taxi touts cos they can be helpful if you got some idea of the prices. I was lucky and got one who speaks english. He said his name is Bucket, later he wrote it down as Bukit. Any way I told Bucket I wanted to go to Hotel Sary Chelek. When we gotthere is has gone up market and is Park Hotel, at $127/night. Bucket says he knows an appartment I can get for $30/night. We go there and chuck the hookers out so I can look but I didnt like it. It was too far from town. Bucket knew another one next to the Russian Embasy. Same thing chuck the hookers out so I can look. Not suitable. We went to another hotel in Lonely Planet and that gone upmarket as well. Eventually Bucket found a scrap of paper with a name on it and we went to look for the place. Three hours after we started we found the place listed above and Im here for 3 days then my new mate Bucket is gonna take me to the airport to go to Uzbekistan.
I was walkin around this morning, just having a look around, when I saw my mate Atsi, one of the Japanese guys I came up the Irkeshtam with the other day. The first thing he asked me was "where are you staying? does it have HOT water?" we swapped stories for a while them I had to go to book flight to Tashkent. I am booked to fly on Wed morning at 9am with Uzbekistan Airlines. That will be about the sixth different airline on this trip.
I went to the local Bazaar this morning and had a ball. You kids wait till you see what I got you. No expense spared you will have instant street cred next time you are in Bishkek.
Today I went back to the markets to get a shirt I saw yesterday but they dont do them in my size. I just cant help myself, I was just trying to buy something.
Went for another walk around town. Bishkek is a strange city. There are parks everywhere. Almost every bloke has a park. Some connect up and there is a huge park running through town for about 10 blocks. There is also a huge park behind the parliament building with a dinky little fun fair in it. Most parks have at least one statue in it and some have lots. There were kids playing ping pong in a couple of the parks yesterday. I suppose that is the only place they have to play cos there is a lot of high rise here.
The hotel Im staying in is first class. There starting price was 2000/night but I got it for 1200/night. The place is brand new and spotless. The bath room has a shower and bath. I took the opportunity to do some washing in the bath and I should have enough to get me home now if I buy a couple of T shirts. It is great cos there is a heater in the room so I can dry my clothes. I also have a TV but there is no english on it so I watch something till it annoyes my then change channels.
Ill be in Tashkent tomorrow.
I think it is Easter at home so Happy Easter Everyone!!!!!!!
