What a hell day it has been.
I statred at 7 at the bus stop at Copan. I was looking for a bus going to Santa Rosa? I found one and the guy said he was going so I jumped on. Along the way he was yelling "San padro" so that meant i was on a bus to San Pedro Sula. It is not the bus I want to be on so I start thinking of options. If I stay with my plan to go to Gracias it is going to mean a few bus changes? When we go to La Entrada, I know this one I was here before, they were telling me to get off and follow this guy he will take you to Santa Rosa. I asked my bus boy if I had to change again to go to Gracias and he said yes. Quickly work out??? From Gracias can I get to Lago de Yojoa? I am not sure and more and more I suspect I will have to go to San Pedro Sula and back again. Stuff it I bit the bullet and said stay on this bus and keep going to SPS.
In 2012 San Pedro Sula was bestowed the title of most dangerous city in the world. It has no sights to see and there is no reason to go there other than it is a massive transport hub. The bus station is the biggest I have ever seen. I have been to smaller airports. So I managed to sort out the bus station, I had to go down stairs for the connection I wanted.
I got a ticket to La Guarme and the bus was right there and everything is going swimmingly. I showed the bus boy so he could let me off at the right spot. This is where it all goes wrong. They let me off at a corner, that is what I expected, but it came up too early? There is a bus there but he is having lunch. I asked him if he was goind to Pena Blanca and he answered me in Spanish and I have no idea what he said. I sat for a while trying to work out what to do and I spied a police station up the road. I thought I could at least find out if I was on the right track. Of course the cops don't speak English, but we communicate as best we can. It turns out they have put me off at the wrong corner! The cops said I can walk to the corner, so I go to start walking and a bus came along so the cop talked to the bus driver and I jumped on. Well I couldn't have walked, the ********. This bus took me another hour!
A couple of young girls got off at this stop and they helped me get the right bus from here, La Guama, to Los Naranjos. Lucky the bus boy picked me as a lost tourist and he asked me if I was going to D&D and when I said yes he said he would tell me where to get off. Sure enough he put me off at the right spot and I am eventually here.
I think 6 busses, I lost count of how much it cost, I was soo lost I didn't know where I was, and I still got here. Getting out should be easier. Mmmm famous last words?
The place I am staying at is a brewery. I tried one of their beers, made out of berries? It is terrible. You make wine out of berries not beer. Call it beer but it is still wine and tastes like ****. The room is nice and I am sure there will be a pub down the road? I feel trapped at this hotel. It is miles, 1/2hr walk, to get anywhere. I have booked 3 nights but I think I gonna change it to 2 and keep moving. I will sleep on it and see how I feel tomorrow. The room is new and spotless, it really is great and the setting tranquil but it is soooo far from anything I feel like I am sitting here waiting for them to hit me with some way overpriced tour? The food and drinks are not cheap but they are not over the top either. See how I feel in the morning?
Well Ive had a good nights sleep, I went to bed at 7 cos nothing to do. I feel better today but still trapped. If I wanted to do their tours, and eat their food, and drink their beer this place would be great. I don't! I want to explore the place and to do that it is a bus ride to get anywhere. I don't speak Spanish so that is really hard. I walked to the lake this morning, that took an hour. I guess that is why this place has no lake views? The staff here don't speak English which really surprises me with all the publicity it gets they must have heaps of gringos coming here?
This morning I walked to the lake. I set of early and at the turnoff I looked up and thought it was going to rain. I came back for my poncho and lucky I did cos it was something else to carry and NOT use. The track to the lake starts easy but ends up being a goat track near the lake. Lago de Yojoa is the biggest lake in Honduras and it has taken me the best part of 2hr to find it. I was looking for birds, real birds like Macaws and Eagles, but I didn't see any. The only ones I saw were little hoppy around boring ones. I was looking all around and went guts up a couple of times on the slippery track. Maybe, in hindsight, I should have worn shoes instead of thongs. And long sleeves might have helped against the mozzies.
Im out of here on the 6am bus in the morning to The Capitol of Honduras. (Hands up who knows the Capitol of Honduras?) This is the first real fail of my trip so really in the scheme of things it is not so bad. Just the mosquitos are really bad here.
