It's the 27th April and we are in Rotorua. We started the first day off yesterday with a sheep shearing and sheep dog show which was quite good. Then we headed to the skyline and luge centre where we got in a cable car and went into the mountains, getting a great view of the area as we were really high up! We then had a couple of goes of luging, which is basically a sledge on wheels that you steer yourself down tracks on the hills which was pretty fast.
Next up was zorbing, this was so much fun. I went in with 2 others from our group and we were flung down the hill in a massive clear bubble with warm water in, slipping around until we ended up a wet twisted mess at the end!
In the afternoon we visited a nearby Maori village and were shown around by a lovely local guy called Shilo and welcomed into a big Maori house. It was really interesting to find out about there culture and learn some Maori words - Kia Ora! In the evening we had a traditional Maori dinner called a hāngi. They cool the food on hot rocks in an underground put and it was yum. We then watched some Maori dancing.
All our group then headed out to a local bar called Lava and had a few drinks and busted a few moves.
Today we had an early start and went white water rafting. We got our wetsuits on and paddles ready and headed onto the Kaituna river in the raft boats. It was really good and our group all managed to stay in the boat. It was pretty scary at times. We went over a few waterfalls including one that was 7 metres high, the boat disappeared completely underwater at the bottom. Luckily we all held on and survived and had a wicked time.
In the afternoon Charlie went to visit Hobbiton whilst I treated myself to a well needed massage :) Then we chilled in the spa in the evening. Rotorua is famous for its underwater hot pools, which means the water naturally come out of the ground boiling. Therefore the spas are full of minerals and are supposed to be really good for you. The local Maori people swear by it and its supposed to take 5 years off you -result! The down side is is full of sulphur which means it stinks of rotting eggs...yuk!
