I am sorry to break it to you like this, but I have received massive Djemolidine Abdoujaprov news from a local Samarkand taxi driver. Previously, I had thought that the Tashkent Terror, hero of the Uzbeks, and second in local historical stature only to Timberlane (the only Uzbek ever to murder over 1,000,000 people and still have statues erected in his honour) was a legendary figure for local school kids to look up to. But no. It turns out that Abdou turned his back on the Uzbeks in favour of Moscow, and raced for the Soviet / Russian team instead, furthering his professional career, but ignoring his roots. It hurts me so much to tell you this, but they simply don't like him in Uzbekistan (or Samarkand at least).
The only other Uzbek sport news I have is that former World Footballer of the Year Rivaldo (ex Barcelona and Brazil) now, at the age of 37-38, plays for Projhaktapor (or such like) in Tashkent. Well, it seemed interesting to me at least.
