A small boat came to pick me and two other women up from Levuka, and we had a glorious boat trip across the ocean, and over the reef. I couldn't stop grinning. Once there, we quickly got to know the other guests; a Swiss/German family of four. Caqalai (Thangalai) is a tiny island, you can walk around it in 15 minutes. The beach is everywhere and snorkelling and swimming great. Everyone eats together on one big table, and we were joined by more guests soon enough. The people that work here are so sweet and friendly. In the evening we had music and kava drinking. The guys put on their sulus and bula shirts, I think there were five of them playing guitar and they all sang. After some tuning, it was great!
Telina from New Zealand, Ben and Sharon from the resort and myself took a boat across to the next island for a walk and to say hello to whomever we met in the villages.
Being so far from electric light, the stars and the moon is amazing, and Talina and I slept on the beach the last night! Fab!
My only regret is that I didn't take a picture of the view from the shower - it is outside and one is surrounded by palmtrees, and in the evening you can spot a bat flying by, they're huge! I realized that I've probably seen them lots of times, only I thought they were regular birds because of their size .
