Landed in cairns at 5.30am Austraila time which is 2 hours ahead of Bali. Managed to sleep a little on the plane. Bit of a bumpy ride coming down through the clouds. When we came though immigration had to go through border control to have bags scanned again ! All ok got through they are really strict with food etc coming in. Had a coffee and picked up our hire car. Only cost £93 for 3 days Bargin! And they gave us an upgrade to an SUV (4x4)
Drove along the coast to port Douglas stopped on way at palm cove saw some different colour parrots and lots of cockatoos. Got to the hotel but the room wasn’t ready. Drove into the town and had breakfast at monkey joes. Very big portions ! Had a walk along and looked at the shops and st Mary’s church - a little church that had been rebuilt after going though a cyclone in 1911.
Drove back to the hotel checked in and had an early siesta.
Up at 4pm showered and drove into town only 5 mins drive. Wandered around the shops bought some clothes then stopped for a drink in the court house. Feels like gone back in time you could almost imagine horses riding through with no cars! Has a slight American feel to it but quiet at the moment not very busy. Had dinner in the iron bar, they did a lovely pumpkin salad with almonds then back to the hotel
