Today was the official last day of our tour! So so weird, we had been together for 30 days like! We all checked out around 12, then said bye to Laura and Anna who were heading on to New Zealand and Koh Phangan respectively. So sad saying bye to Laura as I wouldn't actually see her again! We also said bye to Lisa and Rory but thought we would maybe see them later that night. Then I went with Claire, Fiona and Ursula when they went to check into their guesthouse next door - they weren't leaving until the 7th. After that we all took a taxi to Khao San Road, and I went round the corner to check in at my first lone hostel of the trip!
The hostel looked pretty nice, loads of people! But I couldn't check in till 2 so went and met the girls for lunch (McDonald's...should've stuck with Thai food!) then went for a walk around the Rambuttri area to see if we could get massages etc! On the way the irish girls ran into a girl called Kristina who they had met in NZ which was a bit mad! We had all plannt meet that night to say bye and go up the state tower to the sky bar from The Hangover, so they invited her to that! I ended up just going back to check into the hostel after that with the plans to meet the others later. I checked in and it was pretty nice, a 22 bed dorm but separated by curtains into 4s. Just chilled out all afternoon, wandered around the stalls etc, bought a skirt, had a thai massage - one of the ones where they properly stretch you out and walk on your legs and all...haha. It was good but a bit strange lol! Then went back to the hostel to get ready to meet the others.
I ran into Kristina in the toilets of my hostel when I came out of the shower which was very weird haha, but good because then we could get a taxi down together! We had a bit of a problem trying to get a taxi, none of them wanted to put the meter on because they prefer to rip off tourists...we eventually got one to take us for 100BHT which was fair enough, but he still wouldn't put the meter on haha, so may have got ripped off a little bit! We arrived at the state tower and it was SO POSH. Like I have never seen such a fancy hotel!! We weren't particularly dressed up...not too awful like but definitely backpacker chic haha. We walked in and weren't sure whether to wait for the girls at the bottom or go up to the bar. We tried walking up to the bar, and there was like a line of Thai women to greet you and bring you up the stairs...unfortunately we got to the second one, and when we told her we wanted to go to the bar she very apologetically told us we couldn't go up wearing flip flops! Gutted a bit...we were a bit early so figured we would wait for the others and see what to do. They obviously turned up in flipflops and nothing fancy too, so we gave up on that plan. We waited for Lisa and Rory for a bit but they didn't turn up (we later found out that their taxi went to the wrong place and they got there an hour late...in flip flops! Bad times). So after a quick wander around the neighbourhood we realised that Silom is pretty expensive so went back to Khao San.
It was pretty much the same as the night before, nothing very exciting, just a drink or two and wander around the market stalls then home! We just had some street food for dinner which was really good! The street food in Bangkok is really awesome - Yummy and so cheap!
