(3 December)
Today was a bit of a fail in the morning but eventually picked up haha! We all got up and got the LRT (train) to the KLCC where the towers were, and got there around 8/8:30, thinking we would get up for free...unfortunately when we got there the guy laughed at us - our info must have been out of date or something lol! We took some photos outside though, and there was a big shopping mall inside the towers so we thought we would have a look...pity nothing opened until 10! After a wander around we found a food court with a few things open and grabbed some breakfast.
I think I should describe our two new girls a bit...Joey was slightly older and works in Magaluf in the summers, then gets the rest of the year off. Cat had already been travelling for 3 and a half years (!) and was typical traveller, dreads, seemed really chilled out and laid back...until she was ordering breakfast! She ordered a roti for about 40p, and the man didn't give her a receipt, and then she noticed a sign on the till saying if you don't get a receipt then your food is free! She said to the guy, "so mine should be free then", and the guy tried to give her a receipt but she wouldn't take it, saying that she had had to ask for it. I kinda thought she was half joking, but she ended up arguing with the guy for about 20 minutes (no exaggeration!!) with locals getting involved and security coming and stuff...we left her to it after about 5 minutes cos it was pretty embarrassing! Eventually she came back to our table and said that a local had explained to her that you usually get your receipt with your food, so even though she had eventually got her money back she ended up giving it to him anyway! Nutter lol!
After that mini drama we walked back towards the central market to get a bus to the Batu Caves. We stopped off to get waffles - so awesome!! - and then tried to find the bus for so long we started to doubt it's existence! When we found the bus stop we stood at it fr ages, to the point where we had almost given up hope, and finally got on it for the 45 minute journey to the caves.
I really had no idea what to expect, as didn't know anything about them, but it was really cool! There was a huge statue outside them and loads of steps to get inside. The steps were covered in really horrible monkeys, definitely the worst ones I've seen, I was genuinely worried about getting bitten! They were stealing people's bags for food right left and centre, and looked pretty vicious. When we got to the actualy caves they were really cool, huge!! Really pretty, and there was Hindu shrines inside which were cool to see. After looking around there for a while, we got the sweatbox of a bus back, and Cat left us to get her flight out. She was actually really nice, just a bit mad about the breakfast thing lol!
The rest of us went for food at the Reggae Bar. It was good but I had serious food envy with Scott's burger haha, my chicken wasn't quite as good! We had heard that there was a relaunch night at a hostel a few doors down from us that night with free drinks, so went back to the hostel for an hour or two then went to that!
It was very bizarre, a really small wee bar with lots of locals in it, and it was packed, barely any space to stand! There was an hour of free beer though, and an open buffet which was awesome and sorted dinner! After the beer stopped it started to get a little bit weird with girls coming out and dancing (I was suddenly aware that there was about 5 other girls in the whole bar) so we left and went for a wander to Little India to see the night market! By the time we got there it was closing up, so we got beers in a shop and walked to Reggae Mansion, the posh hostel, which was nearby.
Their rooftop bar was actually open, and was pretty cool. They had some board games and started doing a talent competition type thing which was funny except when I got dragged up by an argentinian who wanted to show off his argentinian dancing - I warned him I had no idea how to do it lol! We did manage to come second haha, beaten to the prize by a guy who did the worm the whole way across the dirty floor...fair enough really. It was a pretty good night...could've done without the McDonald's on the way home though!
