FRANCE - DAY 4 - PANTHEON
Since we were on a Roman theme the next stop was the Pantheon. We were lucky here as they are just beginning a 7+ year restoration on the building and it will soon be totally encased in scaffolding as they work on restoring it.
We are once again back to grand architecture. This place is HUGE! Inside it is just one room in the shape of a cross that is 82 metres high in the middle. Below it, down another winding staircase, are the crypts which hold the remains of highly exhaulted French people such as Victor Hugo, Madame Currie, Alexandre Dumas to name just a few.
It was colder down in the crypts that it was on the streets above. It was like standing in a freezer. Even the guards had their own personal heaters to keep them warm while on duty.
Crepes for an extremely late lunch. They were heavenly. It's amazing we still fit into our clothes with croissants and crepes, mind you we only eat twice a day and walk miles and miles.
