AUSTRIA - DAY 10
We headed into the heart of Vienna and boarded the boat for a cruise along the Danube Canal and river. It was drizzling but still the trip was good.
We almost hit a bridge as the water levels are up due to all the rain. The captain pulled the boat hard to starboard and wiped out the trees along the bank, not to mention scratching the hull along the rocks. Good thing the water level is only three metres if the boat started to sink.
After our close encounter with the bank we continued travelling down the canal until we came to a lock. There we watched with interest as the wall came down and water was pumped into the lock raising us up four metres.
We continued down the canal and then entered the Danube River. The water was flowing fast and there was quite a bit of debree in there. We continued up the river and had to enter another lock to return to the canal. Attached to this lock was a hydro electric station. We dropped six metres to enter back into the canal.
After leaving the boat we headed to the Opera House and the Tourist Information Centre to ask what we could do in the lovely rain with two children. They could only suggest a museum. We are all museum out at the moment so that didn't appeal.
We headed back to the hotel and did something super exciting, the laundry.
