Unfortunately, I decided to throw a wobbly last night, which is a real b***** as it'd been about a year since my last one! Oh well, one a year, I can handle! So this morning we were going to take it easy until we found out that TAME had charged us 3 times for our flight to Panama & not actually booked us on the flight!! So the morning was spent on the phone with the banks trying to sort the mess out. We then caught a cab into the main centre/plaza. We just missed the opening time of the cathedral, however we were in time to see all the guards lining up outside the main government house, the riot police closing off & lining the roads, & the press fighting each other for the best position waiting for the new President of Peru to arrive. We waited a while, but got bored, so headed off to another church round the corner & to have a guided tour of the catacombs there (in Spanish!)
Not sure what I was expecting, but it was quite grim down there & had the musty smell of death amongst the hundreds of bones grouped in small cement sections. We got out just as it was getting dark & grabbed a taxi back. However the ride took about 1hr 20mins, so we literally had to grab our bags & run, with no time to say bye to the boys, as our bus left from almost where we'd just come from in 35mins time!! Our taxi driver had lived in England for 8 years, so we explained the issue & he drove bloody quickly, using all the backstreets & got us there at 7:59pm so we managed to catch our bus at 8pm!!!! That deserved a big tip (well......£2, but that was big to him!). My stomach had been giving me grief all day today, but as we were late, we just had to head off on our 13 hour bus ride to Chiclayo.
