Arrived in Lisbon after a three hour train trip from Porto. Came to the station in what we considered plenty of time to get our tickets and find where to go but there was quite a line and only two windows open so finally made it to the right platform just as the train pulled in. A smooth trip with Internet access on the train so caught up with mails and looked up where to visit in Lisbon.
Our hotel is right in the heart of the city with trams and trains a few steps away and two large squares either side. In one of the squares there was a market for both days of the weekend. It seemed to be celebrating "porco" pig and cheeses and sangria to drink of course. Had the best little warm pork pie and empanadas filled with pork.
It was extremely hot so chose to take a tuk tuk tour rather than try to walk.
These little vehicles are perfect for zipping around the narrow winding streets and laneways. Pedro took us to lots of sites and viewing points so we could see stunning views down over the city. He explained the different parts of Lisbon and a little of the history and added a few stories about the 1755 earthquake and famous Portugese. St Anthony of Padua who was born in Lisbon but was a Franciscan who worked in Italy. His feast day is June 13 though they seem to celebrate it for about a month. We drove through the Alfama district and Pedro pointed our all the bars where Fado is sung. Very mournful and sad music. Eugenia our guide in Porto said it always made her cry. Even doing the tour we were exhausted by the heat so needed a few reviving sangrias.
