We arrived in Oslo to a rainy overcast day. The capital of Norway is situated at the northeast end of the Oslofjord in the southeast of Norway. The population is about 800 000 and the currency is the Norwegian krone. It was nice to come into port and view Akershus castle rather than a busy port. The surrounding fortress was constructed to protect the capital and dates back to 1299. We had booked on a bike tour so were committed to it despite the rain. We visited the city hall where they present the Nobel Peace Prize, the National Theatre with a statue of Henrik Ibsen the Norwegian playwright, the royal palace which was closed due to a visit from US Secretary of State John Kerry. Our final stop was Vigeland Sculpture Park the life work of Gustav Vigeland over 200 sculptures of naked people depicting the complete human lifecycle, a beautiful park and lovely sculptures which would have looked spectacular except for the continuous heavy downpour. We dried off and tried to walk into town again but there were no verandahs for shelter so were just getting wet feet again and decided for the comfort of the ship.
