A late start today yoghurt, rolls, tomatoes and ham for breakfast from Tesco and then off to Wenceslas Square for our first look at Prague. It was Sunday so there were crowds of families and activities. All the big name shops were there as in Vienna and Budapest. The fashion is fantastic, coats, shoes and boots and handbags, and so are the prices. We wandered around to the old town with its cobbled lane ways and so many souvenir shops selling Russian dolls that fit inside each other some with up to 20 dolls inside, Bohemian crystal, jewellery made from amber, scarves of every colour and pattern, also pashminas E8 seemed to be the going price - 200 Czech krone. Good news beer was cheap priced between 33 krone up to 55 krone depending on the position of the bar only about 17 krone in the supermarkets. There are so many street performers all around the streets. We came upon a group of middle aged men playing and singing "Oh when the saints" they had the crowd entranced and a couple of women dancing and clapping up the front.
When we took a wrong turn and ended up near our apartment we decided to go to Florienz to get our bus tickets for Cesky Krumlov and to work out how to get there to catch the bus. Luckily the girl at the bus spoke excellent English so we found out that we had to go to another place to for the bus station. Ross had explained to get a 30 minute ticket for 24 krone and that would get you to most places. We tried our first trip on the metro and made it to Andel and found our departure point. We spent over 45 minutes waiting for a tram to take us back so tried another tram and made it back to the apartment in 10 minutes, great for when we leave.
Our challenge to find a good restaurant.
BEER & PRETZELS
A bar a bit away from the main street we thought looked interesting. It had large pretzels hanging on wooden stands on the table also packets of peanuts. Without thinking we sampled a pretzel so of course were charged for the while lot.
We ordered a beer and perused the menu a goulash for me chicken and veggies for Dave. The goulash was accompanied by a bacon dumpling and that would have been okay except for the other 4 slices of dumpling also on the plate and a whole loaf of bread was that was put down on our table. We need a walk back even though we ate no bread and only a small piece of dumpling.
