New York, new york! My last place on my world trip. I arrived on the saturday afternoon, after a hour wait for a gate for the plane and another hour wait for my bag, thank you usa customs! So about 5pm i was on my way to the hostel by central park, via the confussing new york subway system. I arrived just before 7pm and checked in before a quiet night. The next day after a lay in, I was up and out to see ground zero and all that stuff. The evening saw me go up the rockafeller tower for a night view of manhatten. Will, shane and jason arrived on monday morning and with will doing his own thing, the rest of us went on an open top bus tour of manhatten. The evening I managed to catch up with will as we had pizza in time square and then found a bar for a drink. After our drink and upsetting the barman, it was time to make our way to the cinama to catch the exacellent new batman film "The Dark Knight". As good as the film was, it was still annoying that when ever something good in the movie happened the americans started clapping and cheering, as if the actors can hear! Tuesday I was up to finnish the bus tours that we had paid out for, including the brooklyn tour. The tour guide for the brooklyn tour talked more about himself than brooklyn, but at least he got the bus to go past ground zero and the dock where the titanic was due to dock. Wednesday was will's last day so all four of us walked down to see where john lennon was killed and to see the strawberry fields tribute in central park. After that it was off to the top of the empire state building, where we were able to get some great photos of new york. That took us up to a late lunch and where will left for home, something that I would be doing in a couple of days. That evening myself and jason with his trusted fake ID went on the hostel organised pub crawl. Five pubs later, quite a few drinks and one mcdonalds we was back at the hostel around 5am. As we walked in, charlie and rebecca was trying to check in at reception. So after catching up with our kiwi bus friends it was off to bed for a few hours. About 4 hours later I was up and off to the UN building to go on the tour. Not the best tour in the world as they rushed you along so no time to see all the stuff on show. But still nice to say that I have been there I guess. After lunch I decided to go on the water taxi boat to see the statue of liberty up close along with a few other bits of new york. A very good boat ride and only one hour so not to much time consuming. After a look around the dock there and near by streets, I walked up to ground zero for the subway train. On the way I came across the little church that was in the shadow of the twin towers which had managed to survive. After a look around it was back to the hostel to meet up with the others. Thursday night it was back to time square area for dinner and then one last look around time square and its shops. Friday morning we visited the met museum with me getting in as a student! Stupid americans will believe anything me thinks! After that it was lunch and then back to the hostel to collect my bags. One last trip on the subway back to JFK airport for my flight BA116 to london heathrow. So that was it my trip over.
