It was another six hour drive today. I'm not going to ramble on about how beautiful it was driving through Yosemite National Park covered in snow. I'm not..... Well maybe a little.
We drove through the Sierra Nevada ranges. As you have seen in previousl photos beautifully clothed in sparkling white snow, although around the hem there is a little wear and much dirt. Think that may have something to do with the snowplows scraping it off the road and throwing it high in the air onto the road side. Some of those drifts were over three meters high. There are alot of summer cabins along the drive we took and many of them were almost buried, and guess in the height of winter they were. Standing proud were some grand Sequoia and Lodgepole Pines. We passed a couple of lakes with the mountain peaks reflected in their waters, but it was a bit hard to cross four lanes of steep winding of road to the view point to take the photo. The snow melt has small rivers flowing beside the road. They flow over large rocks, looking like small rapids, as the days get warmer these will become more fierce, boardered by forest they look amazing.
We decended one range of mountains lining up to ascend the next and a sign was flashing, have your chains ready. This was something in the back of my mind but hoping I would not need, as we didn't have them. The sky was darkening and I was getting spots on the windscreen, but I decided to forgwe ahead. As luck would have it, it was a great drive with no need to worry.
I've been learning much from my travelling companion, mainly how to channel surf the radio, which types of music are "s***", I have learn't that an earplug in my right ear would have been a good idea as occassionally a highpitched whistle will eminate from the passenger seat, he knows the words to almost any song played, but at that age I guess I did too. Pierce is an excellent travel companion, he's loads of fun.
We pulled into Folsum Premium Outlets and low and behold, he shopped, not a lot, but glad to see. He is a single minded shopper, not interested in anything but the one brand. No looking to compare, no looking, so its a quick shop. Didn't get that from me........
Maybe my rabbiting on about how amazing the scensry has been is rubbing off. For the first time the youngen commented on how green the fields were.....
We contended with a few traffic delays and 30 miles out of San Francisco guess who spies a theme park. Had I seen it first I would have diverted attention. It is an off shoot of a park we will visit in LA, so got out of that.......
Managed to score Alcatraz tickets for tomorrow..........
