Last weekend a group of about 20 of us went to Lancelin to a surf camp. We left the P&O at 6:00am, so I was up bright and early at 5:00. We walked down to the bus stop and got on a bus headed for Lancelin which is about two hours away. I kind of dozed off on the bus, but I am not really able to sleep easily on buses or planes. Once we arrived, we were fitted for wet suits and what not. We went down to the beach and the instructors gave us a quick lesson on how to get up onto the board. The conditions were perfect for beginner surfing. The water was fairly shallow and there were great rolling white waves. After about five or six tries I was able to get up onto the board. By the end of the first day, I was getting up onto pretty much every wave that I tried to get on and surfed them into the beach. There's no better feeling than making it up onto the board and drifting into the coast. Very rewarding. It was pretty hot outside and we had all worked pretty hard so we laid low when we got to the hostel that evening. One of the instructors brought some sausages and steaks for dinner. He also drove us to the bottle shop to grab some beers. Everybody crashed out early that night because we were all beat. At about 8:00am Sunday morning we headed out again to the beach. The second day the waves were much worse. There were a lot more green waves and less white ones. The green ones are harder to get up onto because you have to paddle harder and drop into the wave. I only got up a handful of times to surf the whole way in. It was still fun being out there with everybody, but we had all wished the waves were as good as the first day. Since it was so hot and sunny, everybody made sure to put on tons of sun screen. We all put on zinc, which is a white sunscreen that doesn't really come off. We all looked like true surfers. Haha. I actually got a little sunburnt where my hair meets my forehead and on my upper eyelids. And believe it or not, my eyes got sunburnt. There are bloodshot on the left and right sides of my pupils where my eyelids didn't cover with a squint. It was bright! The weekend was a blast and I will probably go out with some people to a nearer beach to do some more surfing sometime soon. I'm going to put up a new section of pics with surfing and the boat party pics. I'll label all the new ones so you know where they were at.
