Back in London and an opportunity to catch up with old friends. We went to see Richard(Harry) Lake and his wife Dee at their home at Bagshot. I have not seen Richard since College 44 years ago and he still looks the same maybe a little heavier. We were taken to a local pub for lunch which was very good ( pub rally quaint with head height about 5ft 6in! We had a drive around the area, past Ascot, Edward & Sophie's house, an Arab's house worth 80 million pounds!!!and we went to a hotel spa resort where we had tea in the piano bar, very luxurious -tea/coffee cost about $20 each, a one off!!
With Janet we visited Wisley, the Royal Horticultural Society's show garden - it was spectacular! The daffodils were in full bloom and so many varieties; the magnolias (over 400 varieties) were lovely;the glasshouse is full of beautiful orchids, palms - a huge range of temperate plants as well as a cactus area. It would be interseting to visit in a different season.
The London Canal Museum on Regents Canal is a good place to learn about the canals, the ice importing business and the start of a walk on the tow path past residences and offices through locks to Camden Lock were the Camden Markets are located. This is a very busy cheap market set around the old underground horse stables that were the basis for the early transport business; hundreds of horses were kept in underground stables overnight. Good cheap food, clothes and pubs on the canal.
Lost the camera leaving Liverpool, presumably just droped it at the station, therefore no photoes.
