Back in Paris staying in Diana and Norman's apartment which is located in the 7th arrondisment very close to Gare du Nord. The apartment is very small but very convenient. We go out in the morning and buy fresh croussants or bagettes; later in the day the shops are still open providing fresh fish, cheese meat etc, everything is sold in small very specalised shops providing the very best quality.
On Kevin's recommendaton we went to near Bastille Metro, where an old railway viaduct of about 2 km has been converted into an elevated lineal park providing openspace in an area without any parks (Pavement Plantee). Under the viaduct the arches have been developed as an arts and crafts area with glass blowing photography, furniture making and other smart home stores. When we walked along the park the police were setting up underneath for a strike day, hundreds of police in riot gear etc. We didn't have time to stay for the action.
We visited the Musee d'Orsay again. I love this museum! All the old favourites but always something new to find - and the space is just wonderful! Walked back through the cafes and small shops in the Marais - the Parisians love their fresh cakes, pastries, cheeses etc
On Saturday we visited Saint Denis, just out of Paris, at the Basilica where all the French Kings and Queens have been buried since the 8th Century. We had lunch back at the apartment enjoying the sun in the courtyard (very brief!!) and then walked up from the flat to the north. We saw crowds of people on the hill - it was Sacre Coeur! It was one of the first days of sunny weather and there were thousands gathered on the hill. We joined them on the hill - so busy nearly every step and sqm of grass was occupied.!
Near the top was a black busker with a soccer ball - he was on a small plinth and played with the ball on his head, feet, shoulders, back, spinning while climbing a light pol - what an athlete! Also on the steps near us were a small group of buskers playing popular 70's & 80's songs. A great afternoon, we could have stayed longer with this happy crowd.
