After another roadside lunch we ventured in to see the famous Tambo Teddies. The roadside scenery has started to change - Misty spotted a couple of emus and the road trains are becoming more common.Between Blackall and Barcaldine the number of dead kangaroos on the roadside was unbelievable, with carcasses almost every fifty metres. We visited the Heritage Workers Museum and the Tree of Knowledge memorial. The memorial would have been an amazing sight at night, but unfortunately we discovered this as we were leaving at midday. From a distance, the memorial looks fairly uninteresting and rather like some left over railway shed.Up close however, it takes on a life of its own.The structure houses hundreds of railway sleeper sized 'wind chimes' that resemble the foliage the tree would have once had.Suspended some thirty metres above, the 'foliage' murmurs as the wind passes through and is probably reminiscent of the voices that reportedly gathered under the tree during it's lifetime.Even the tree's root system has been preserved and in displayed beneath your feet, viewed through decorated glass.
