We had an evening flight from Peru to Mexico City. We left Lima at 5.15 and six and a bit hours later arrived in Mexico. On the way over we were flying into the sunset which was a glorious shade of deep red and orange. It must be wonderful as a pilot to see that glory every time you fly, however the pilot definately earned his money as it was a very bumpy during the flight. When we arrived in Mexico City it was dark and clear and the lights of the city disappeared into the distance - a truly vast city.
The two terminal airport was just as vast. Our plane had to wait to dock and it was past midnight when we entered the terminal. Unfortunately we were joined by another plane load of passengers and, oh joy, the queue for immigration disappeared into the far distance. One hour later we cleared passport control only to find the baggage belt was in another building. Worried now that our bags had been on the belt for so long we were relieved to find that they were still there, although the outside zip compartment has been undone on both bags. Fortunately we keep them empty so nothing was taken. Our main baggage was locked as usual, we keep all our valuables on us so lost baggage would be a nuisance rather than a catastrophe!
By this time it was 1.30 in the morning, and we were really looking forward to our bed, so we took an airport taxi the short distance to this very noisy hotel (it's on a main road with overnight roadworks), before we leave this evening for Cruz de Huanacaxtle, a small town on the west coast of Mexico, near Puerto Vallarta, our next workaway.
