Algarrobo has a wonderful coast line and it is possible to walk alongside it as it curves around the sandy bays. Whilst on our walks we have come across many different birds and mammals, some of which we recognise from the UK and others that are quite foreign to us. In some places we have found a large poster telling us about the wildlife in the particular area we are walking but unfortunately the names are in Spanish. Of course some we can identify immediately such as the pelicans and cormerants , but others such as the waders are new to us. There are so many different varieties of birds here, a twitchers paradise in fact. On our walk the other day I mentioned we hadn't seen a sea otter yet, 10 minutes later 'cue' otter and there was one sunning on a rock. It then dived into the sea and disappeared across the bay. So amazing to watch. Yesterday we went hunting for penguins that are supposed to nest here, 'cue' penguins? Unfortunately not, and as our last day is tomorrow, there is not much chance now. We leave early on Saturday for Argentina (via Santiago) by coach across the Andes. It has been a lovely three weeks and we will be sad to leave this lovely Chile town.
