From the hectic and chaotic Hanoi to the much more peaceful, compact and rather regal Hue. It lies on the Perfume river and is home to the Imperial Citadel, the royal residence of the kings of Vietnam. In 1993 it was listed as a world heritage site - and seeing around I can understand why!
After a local vietnamese lunch we headed to the Imperial city for the afternoon - royal palaces, courts, houses for the family, library, temple...some are the original buildings, some have been destroyed during combat and some are being currently restored. In the midst of our visit there was a heavy rainstorm with accompanying thunder and lightning - so heavy that the strret our hotel is on now resembles a river!
Apart from this one shower, the weather has been in the mid 30's with high humidity so we all just sweat constantly!!
This evening is a free evening so some of us are off to a truly vietnamese restaurant - not a western dish in sight!!
