Adventures of a Global Wanderer
The Chiemsee Palace gardens have a serious of fountains that put on a show at 15 min intervals. It was nice watching for a while killing time before our designated meeting time.
The gardens were also manicured and had an extended tunnel like view looking back to the mainland.
Walking over to the monastery which was the old palace, it was an interesting museum with lots of wall art.
The top floor had a room where a treaty was signed along with the palace main hall.
The walls and ceiling were hand painted and visitors are only allowed to view from the outside of the grand hall.
Another wing had an art gallery which I wasnt into.
Heading back to our meeting point it began to rain. We sheltered in the ferry as the rain became very intense.
The steam train waited for us and locals and tourists stopped again to take pictures as the old train chugged along.
Chiemsee was a great day trip overlooked in favour of more popular Neuschwanstein. It can be a fun trip with the steam train and ferry and recommended for kids also. The monastery is something also overlooked in favour of the palace, and the steam train adds another bonus. Except for some rain at the end the day worked out to be quite worthwhile.
