So we arrived across the border in Thailand. There were a few of us travelling from Malaysia together and we walked across the border. Then headed to the nearest hotel as it was getting late and did not seem like the kind of area we wanted to be hanging around in. Next day headed straight up to Hat Rin on a bus and then transfered sharpish onto another bus to get to Krabi. Then headed to Railey beach cos a friend from Oz had recommended it. Was a nice beach but the shack we were staying in was not so pretty and I did not appreciate cockroaches crawling over my bed! Also all felt like we were getting stung in the sea so was not the best initial impression of Thailand! Stayed here for a few nights then headed to Phuket, where we stayed at Patong beach. It was a lively are to say the least and was a real eye opener for me as to what goes on in thailand!! Kate and I also headed down to Kata beach for a day, which was lovely - also did a little bit of shopping here! Headed over to Phi Phi from Phuket on the boat. This jouney was stunning and then we arrived in Phi phi and it had a good feel instantly. The beaches were stunning and met up with Alex and Lea who I went to Uni with so it was really great to see them! Had a really good night out with everyone that ended with me knocking myself out on a sign! It was too low!! Needless to say I was not feeling too well later that evening or the following day!! Oops! It was my first bucket experience and I did not know the impact of those things!
Next day, once I had finally composed myself, we headed up to the lookout point. It was quite a struggle to get up there, I can tell you! But it was worth all the sweat, it was absolutely amazing! Next day we headed to Phi Phi Lay and Maya Bay in particular which is where the beach was filmed. Getting there was a bit of a problem as we had to climb over these rocks and then through this cave. We all had blood pouring by the time we arrived but did not care cos this place was bloody beautiful!! Was so stunning when there were just a few people there as it can get quite busy. We spent the day there though and I did not want to leave, definately on the list of places to return to!
Next day had to leave Phi Phi and headed back to cheap rooms in Phuket! Classy, I know! Had a few drinks and unfortunately witnessed two lady boys in a fight, it was not pretty! Next day we headed to Surat Thani on a bus. We rocked up at this restaurant and they told us we had to get out to verify our tickets. I was not convinced and told the others to wait with the van - it just didnt feel right? Anyway everyone needed the toilet and so all got out the van. The man then told us that we staying here for half an hour to eat. I went back to the van for some fruit and it was locked so i looked in but couldnt see anything (something def didnt feel right) so we got the driver to open the door and there was this man under the seat with kates bag and all her stuff and our money!! We stood our ground and shouted untill they returned everything including the money which they insisted they did not have! This definately left a sour taste in our mouth and I would advise anyone going to Surat thani to be very careful with all their stuff as this happened to friends of ours and lots of people that we have spoken to.
Had an overnight boat to Koh Samui, which might as well have been going backwards it was that slow! When we arrived we took a truck to Lamai. This was another hair raising journey, we were sat in the back of a pick up while this guy drove like a nutter to the other side of the island! Then a ghekko landed on sam who flicked it at chess!! Lots of screaming involved!! Very funny! Stayed at Coconut resort which turned out to be a cockroach infested shed on the beach!! We hired out mopeds here (hich was an experience!!) and headed to the waterfalls, which were lovely. Then headed to Chawang which was a very lively part of the island and had an amazing pie for dinner!!! Had to ride back on the ped in the dark and had to resort to singing very loud to myself to get me through! Had a big night out in Chawang too, which was a lot of fun and involved dancing on a bar!
Headed to Koh Tao next, where a lot of us took our open water dive course with easy divers. The first few days were mainly spent in a classroom and in the water at shallow levels, which was fun but on the last day we got to dive on an amazing site that went deeper and we saw a grey reef shark!! So many fish too and have an amazing video of it that ill have to show you when i get back!
Had to head up to Bangkok and then to cambodia border to renew our visas so that we could go to the full moon party! This involved a lot of time on a bus! Arrived back down at the islands and headed to Koh Phangan to meet Lea and Alex. The place to stay was shut for the night so we went for dinner and then kipped with them for the night. Next day we headed to a beach at the north of the island which was stunning but the weather was not!! Pretty much as soon as we got in the sea it started raining! We spent most of the day in a restaurant/bar chatting, then had dinner on the beach that evening. Got a tuk tuk back to Hat rin, where we were staying. This was quite a journey - so bumpy! Wanted to go out that night but both kate and I felt so sick that we couldnt. Think it must have been something we had eaten. Next few days chilled by the pool and did some shopping in preparation for the full moon! We headed out quite early on the night of the full moon and had dinner at our local, the outback bar! Painted ourselves with florescent colours and then headed to the beach. It was madness! I have never seen so many people!! Very fun evening and the music was amazing.
Next day we had a delightful travel back up to Bangkok. Had quite a bit to sort out here and went on a tuk tuk tour of the city. This included going to see lots of buddhas and temples as well as the palace and the temple of the emerald buddah. Had a very fun few days. Had to get a train to Chang Mai as all the buses were full. We got on the train at 2.30 in the afternoon and did not arrive until 6.00 the following morning! It was a long one! Checked in at 'Nice Place' and booked our trip to the jungle. That evening we headed to the night market where I picked up a few things.
Up early the next morning and on a bus. Arrived in the jungle and had lunch at this village and a look around before we began our jungle trek. We stayed by the waterfall in a hut in this tiny village, where a couple and their grandson looked after us. The next day they brought breakfast to our hut and then we headed off into the jungle. We went elephant treking which was amazing!! They control the elephants by talking to them, was very strange. Then headed to do rafting in the afternoon, which was lots of fun but involved spiders and even some snakes in the bushes either side! Not impressed with that!
Next day we were up early and after a mad rush around we headed to the border and crossed over the river to Laos!!
See you in Laos xx
