We took the ferrie from koh phangan for 30 minutes and arrived at koh samui, imidiatly you could see this was the fancier island. The taxis here were real taxis and they had shuttle buses, the roads were actually roads that were good to drive on and there were such things as resorts and road signs and shopping centres. we took a shuttle bus to get to our hostel, luckily our hostel is in a thai town and not at one of the main tourist beaches. Once again we got our own room and bathroom .. this one even had aircon and fridge and tv WOW!
We straight away went for a walk in town, we ate at this little thai restaurant and it was delicious. Then we walked along all the little stools and just had a look. At some point joshs shoe broke so we tried to find a stand selling flip flops ofcourse we didnt find any, then his other shoe broke and we decided it was best just to buy some fruit and hed back to the hotel. We bought dragon fruit, lichi, rambutan, guava and thai apple.
For dinner we went to this little food market where there were only thai people we figured it was better to eat here than where the other tourist ate, and we were right.. there was so much food and so much we didnt know so we just got bits here and there and ate of everything and omg ofcourse it was delicious. For dessert we had thai pancakes yummmy.
The next day we rented a bike and set off to see koh samui. We drove first to the temples were we met a very nice thai guy who told us about the temples and buddhism and buddhas. He also read joshs palm and started seeing little things about josh and got them all right, he even told josh that there was a secret he had kept since 16,17 which no one knew and even that was true.. it was very wierd, he also warned josh that in his future he would lend a friend some money in investment and that it would end badly.
We then went to the next temple called Big Buddha were there were bells surroudning the buddha which we rang three times each, once for friends, once for family and once for ourselves. Each bell would then represent something like peace, hope, freedom, health, happines, etc.
Our thai friend also showed us this little buddha statues which had monday tuesday wednesday day wednesday night thursday friday saturday and sunday. Each buddha representing character and it all depended on which day you were born. We figured out that Josh was born on a tuesday meaning that he didnt need to work so hard that he was good at things and he would do very well in life and therefore his buddha was the sleeping buddha :) Denises buddha represented independence and the ability to survive alone not needing help from others nore having dificulty in it.
After the temples we went to the chaweng beach which was just filled with tourists so we didnt stay too long, we went to a thai canteen/street stall kind of place for food and then drove to the waterfall.
As we parked by the watwerfall this guy came to us with a baby elephant and ofcourse josh hopped on, he then rode the elephant for a bit and even gave it a shower. It was very nice. After we trekked up to the waterfalls and then off home. We went to the food market again ofcours eating diferent things, and they were also delicious.
Thai people seemed very surprised at how nice we were and how respectful and friendly we were.
The enxt few days we rented bikes and just lazed around on beaches. We spent most our time trying to find remote beaches and eating, we met a lot of nice people and had a good time. We found a beach close to chaweng were there was almost nobody and it was beautiful. We went to food markets, bargained with the thais. On our last night we went to watch the football in a bar along chaweng beach, that was fun. And on the way home denise drove the bike for a few seconds just around the block as there were no cars or anything, it was extreemly funny.
We had a great time on koh samui and on the 14th we left to start heading up north.
