We had to leave the Canyon at 2pm, since it is a three hour drive to Utah and the Monument Valley and the sun sets at 6.15pm. First some sandwiches at the old watch tower at the canyon and then on to Utah. Again, an incredible landscape with rocks and mountains changing colours all the time, from pink to red to brown to glittering. And suddenly, when you drive over a hill and have a view of the other side of it, there it is, Monumnet Valley. Holy ground for the Indians and breathtaking in all its splendour. It seems as if these rocks were just out here on display in an enormous valley as if it was a museum display. We took some incredebly beautiful pictures of the huge rocks and drove on to a place called Mexican Hat. It is a balancing rock on top of another pilar like rock. Great. Back to the valley before the sunset to see the sun go down, causing the colours on the 'monuments' to change nearly every minute. A crazy beautyfull sunset being the result. Had a beer and enjoyed the moment. People come from all over the world to witness this spectacle and I just saw it. Amazing. Again, hopefully the pics will do it some justice. We went eat something on the way back to Flagstaff and all in all we drove 580 miles today, but for a very good cause. Back at the hostel, i returned the car and we all said goodbye. Claire and Fettouma are supposed to catch the 5 am train to LA and Otis is supposed to go to Sedona in the morning. I am supposed to have a nice and quite day and explore the town of Flagstaff. It didn't really turn out this way at breakfast the next morning....
