Yesterday morning took the subway to the south tip of Manhattan and took the ferry to Staten Island, it's a free service that takes you right next to the Statue of Liberty and once at Staten Island a beuatiful view over Manhattan and New Jersey. A really trip with some really nice pics. Again, please see facebook for these, since uploading the picsto this blog through my iPad doesnt seem to work properly right now. After this Tuomas and I were supposed to meet a friend of his more uptown near 30th street and 10th avenue, where the 'Highline' starts, a 1,6 km long park built on top of a former railway trach, high above street level: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Line_(New_York_City)
Very cool idea and well done. Short walk through the meatpacker disctrict and on to Brooklyn where T wanted to show us the famous Grimaldi's and eat some of their world famous pizza's. Unfortunaltely the line of people was about 50 meters long and so we decided to go to another Italian restaurant in Williamsburg, Brooklyn as well. After dinner and a few drinks at a dark but cool Brooklyn bar I decided to go home and make a long final walk across the Williamsburg bridge back to Manhattan and the Lower East Side, aka home for the past week. Neautiful view on the bright city lights of NYC, a walk to remember!
Today at 15:45 my train leaves for Chicago, where I will have a few hours before changing to the train to Flagstaff, Arizona. Altough I am rather sad to leave this amazing city, I know a lot is still ahead of me. First Arizona and for after this plans are starting to form for California (with Ozz), Taiwan and Phillippines.
So now it's off to buying some food and drinks for on the around 55 hour trip towards the west with two trains: the 49 Lakeshore Limited and the 3 Southwest Chief.
Catch you later,
D.
