The new plan: with Tom, trade in the Lincoln Towncar for a one-way, bit more economical car to drive to a few National parks, Vegas and ultimately to San Francisco. Step one; to Budget and return the car. Budget tells us to go to the airport. Step two; walk back and forth between Avis/Budget and Alamo until one offers the very best deal. Step three; get a Chevrolet and drop it off in San Francisco, we are on our way! Maria from the hostel gave us a whole written list of things to do between here and Vegas. Left Flagstaff early afternoon to drive again to Grand Canyon.
Did a hike down towards the bottom on a very steep trail at Yaki Point. Walked down to a very beautiful viewpoint: "ooh aah point", see attached picture. This is quite a steep hike, so we decided to turn around here and go back up. On the way up, we heard a rumble and saw 4 Japanese tourist frozen to the ground, since a few rocks came flying down.. One the sie of a basketball bounced of the ridge just in front of one of the girls and barely missed her. We saw it happen and were frozen too.. Luckily it missed her and although shaking, they could continue their hike.
By the way, my scuba watch is acting weird because of all the height and pressure diffences, it must think i am doing some weird dives, it keeps giving me strange readings by itself.
After this hike, we had to start driving to the north, where we were expected at our 'Couchsurfing' address in Rockville, Utah. But before that, we wanted to still visit Lake Powell and the Horseshoe bend. Unfortunately the distances in the States are still something we need to get used to and sadly we ran out of time, it got dark.. On to Utah, on to Rockville!
