On leaving Karijini, Tom Price, and Lisa, Steve and Torah behind, we travelled through Millstream National Park - once a cattle station, the beautiful old homestead now serves as an information centre. We spent most of the day touring around the yards of the homestead, checking out the large spring-fed waterway, and taking a drive down a road named after our favourite tree for campfire timber - the Snappy Gum. Snappy, Snappy everywhere and not a limb to burn... no fires allowed in Millstream.
Driving through the spectacular Chichester Ranges, we made our way back to the coast again and set up camp at Point Samson for a few days. Unfortunately it was Midgie Town (no good for Lea), and too windy for much fishing (no good for Lee, and therefore no good for Lea). We also copped a torrential downpour one night, something we have not experienced since the east coast. Poor old Point Samson wasn't really cutting the mustard for us.
The highlight of our stay in this area was the historic town of Cossack, which was the place where pearl shell diving took off here in Oz. The buildings are really well preserved, and the history of each was documented within. Even the billions of flies swarming around us didn't put a dampener on the day, for we were armed with our rather-dorky-but-extremely-practical mosquito headnets - possibly the best $12 we've ever spent.
With the wind not even remotely looking like dying off, and the midgie bites racking up on Lea, we cut our losses and hit the road, to try and catch up with Team Morgan (Lisa, Steve & Torah) again.
