We were back on the wonderful Gibb (barra-enhanced euphoria) stopping at a few more gorges for a swim and a couple of over-nighters, including Drysdale Station which is some 60km up the Kalumburu Road, man was that a crap road. Diesel, the aboriginal legend that got us the mullet bait at Home Valley, had warned us about the road and we thought we'd go that far and make our mind up. We took no convincing at all that this was as far as we wanted to go, and spent a couple of days relaxing in a waterhole escaping the midday heat. Lee got the fly rod out, managed to tempt a few sooty grunter (Black Bream) and one very friendly 1.5 - 2.0m freshwater croc. But he was just checking Lee out, kinda friendly little fellow, coming to within 10m for a close up.
Bell Gorge was beautiful, a bit of a hike finds you at the bottom of the waterfall with a deep hole for some lengthy swimming sessions, the other thing other than the gorge that sticks in our minds was how friendly the march flies were. They were so friendly we would both have 3 or so trying to taste our blood at one time... We only stayed a night as they had a fire ban and it's just not camping if you can't have a fire, not to mention the hospitality of the march flies was a little overwhelming.
