Deb's Travels...
Captains Log. Star Date 21.06.05
The photos of the dolphins are completly random and have nothing to do with this postcard, I didnt manage to get any pictures while at the hospital so thought I'd utilise the site's own resources...and dolphins it is!
Anyway, while its still fairly fresh in my mind just thought I'd recall the happenings of my overnight stay at the hospital...
So....I went in on sunday night were I was informed it would be an early start...it was indeed an early start for me when I was woken at 520am!! (gasp) and handed a urine sample bottle, told to do my business and have a shower-quickly! So I did just that, was pregnancy tested, tested for drugs of abuse, breathalised and weighed then sent back to bed, where I had a canilla put in my arm.
The first time didn't work and left a bit of a bruise on my forearm but 2nd time lucky for me the 2nd one, in the crease of my elbow (which turned out to be quite uncomfortable with regard to moving my arm, and not being able to properly!) went in ok...
The girl next to me who is phobic of needles (go figure-she must need the cash worse than me!) had 3 attempts go wrong before she got hers in so I thanked myslef lucky for small miracles!!
The blood tests then began, I was the first of the run, and had my first bang on 8am, then every 30mins from then, which then went down to every hour after lunch, then every two hours, and so on and so forth, the last one was at midnight, then one more 8am this morning a full 24hrs after the first and I was free to leave! (after taking advantage of the free breakfast of course!)
Even tho the day was spent pretty much doing nothing at all it passed pretty quickly and I found myself really tired most of it too so was well able to sleep! Maybe cos they took so long to feed us and kept stealing our blood could have something to do with the tired feelings!!
There was 6 girls in and 4 boys (doing a different research) and they have a TV room and loads of videos/dvds to watch, a play station and a proper dining room, so it wasnt like we were invalids lying in bed all the time!
It was soooo nice stepping out into fresh air this morning after being cooped inside for days!!
Oh yeah and I can see why people think hospital food is really bad!! Hell yeah it is!!
Over and out xxx
